World Village: Tveit, Nedstrand, 21 - 26 September
World Village represents the last stage in our project. From September 21 through 26 a selected group of young people that have been involved in the project will come together at Tveit secondary school in Nedstrand, Tysvær. Here they will exchange experiences, learn from each other´s cultures, discuss migration issues and actively take part in football, arts and crafts, outdoor life and sailing old wooden boats.
We hope that World Village will become a permanent international camp for young people that have actively participated in the fight against xenophobia and racism through dialogue and tolerance. World Village is founded on the philosophy of the United Nation Developing Programme as expressed in the Human Development Report 2004: peace and stability in the world can only be achieved through cultural liberty.
The European Commissions´s Youth in Action programme is the main supporter of World Village along with Stavanger2008, Tysvær municipality and Rogaland County Council. A local committe representing various groups and organisations at Nedstrand intend to give the young Europeans a new concept of hospitality and solidarity.
Exhibition and conference
During their stay the participants will also be invited to a party with the locals and visit historical sites. They will also attend the opening of the exhibition Moving People in Tysvær Culture House, and present a petition against prejudice and xenophobia at the international conference Migration and Intercultural Dialogue in Tysvær Culture House on 25 September. OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, Knut Vollebæk, will be keynote speaker of the conference.
